Drawing To A Close

Weeks later, and we're getting there.

Since the last post, things have been all coming together in a very slow fashion. Giving myself time to recuperate away from the portfolio over Christmas, I return to what's left with renewed enthusiasm. As I write this to publish shortly, all that remains with the film is to re-record a couple of sounds (frying pan sizzle and smoke alarm), and placing in the therapist's final lines, as well as the score. This has led me to focus more on the paperwork side of things, to wrap up the remaining ends of that as the period of this portfolio comes to a close.

Obviously the screenplay, treatment, shooting schedule, and Health and Safety forms are all completed prior to shooting. I plan on going back to make a few minor adjustments to the treatment, based on the experience of the shoot and the shape of the film now, but these will be minimal and for contextual reasons. My main focus is on wrapping up the budget breakdown, now that I know what I have spent on the film, and what needs to be spent on post-shoot. I do plan to include my initial budget idea as well as the final budget, to show the progression of what I initially had planned for the film and how it ultimately turned out.

I've been in regular contact with Sophie about the score, discussing concrete confirmation on what each piece should represent in the scene - thematically and emotionally, but also including practicality such as length of the scenes in which they appear. It's been a little harder to discuss this as we're separated by lockdown, but progress is being made. Composition has already occurred on her end, and with a few tweaks, recording will begin soon - I hope to have the entire score within the film, and subsequently the entire film complete, by Sunday.

Beyond that, the project is close to completion. I want to take the rest of this time to tie everything together. Rewatch the film and note down any additional corrections that need making. Adjust any phrases within the paperwork side of things. But for the most part, things are there.

This is the final post of the production process. I'll make one more as a sort of epilogue to summarise the experience. But for both the pleasures and stress that has come with this experience, I am very grateful to have had this opportunity. Thank you for reading along this, and I hope you enjoy the film when you see it. Take care.
