Mood Whiplash (Blog 7)
And back into the fray way quicker than expected.
Since last week’s deflated tone, things have suddenly moved
forward very rapidly in development. I had another meeting with Geraint who
informed me that Paul Andrew, who he had suggested to me at the start of the
term, was available to shoot my film, but only if the shoot happens within the
next week as he’ll be committing to another project right after. I was further
encouraged by his good relationship with Geraint and his professionalism and
approachability, and the various projects he’d worked on before. All this
combined with me not hearing back from Sam, who I had contacted last week, I
have decided to power ahead and bring the shoot forward from the estimated
shoot period of late October. We will now shoot on Saturday 10th,
Monday 12th, and Tuesday 13th. This does cut into Matt’s
shoot even more than planned; we’ve had to discuss rearranging various dates to
accommodate one another’s shoots, which has not been ideal, as I don’t want to
disrupt his shoot anymore but we both agreed this would be the best window for
me to shoot mine.
I met with Paul earlier today at Pontio café, to discuss the
visual side of things, such as the feasibility of certain shots, particular
framing techniques and shot composition that work with the tone of the scenes
and the subject matter of the film. It was an encouraging meeting, though he
could tell I was quite nervous. Which I was.
In my head it feels like there’s a lot riding on this film.
I want it to be good. I want to improve as a filmmaker, but also show what I’m
capable of doing. I don’t know when the next opportunity will come along for me
to make a film, so I want to have something I’m proud of to show what I can do.
And I only get the one shot of that. So, I really hope I don’t screw it up.
But I have faith in this film. I feel something special can
be made here. Stay tuned.
Estimated shoot dates – 10th, 12th –
13th October 2020
