"What Will You Do?" "Wait?" (Blog 5)

After two weeks of things speeding up towards production, things have started to grind to a halt. I haven’t yet heard back about an update from the council about the pier yet, and I’m keen to secure it before the end of the week. As we near the end of September I’m becoming even more aware of just how close the shoot is getting and how much more needs to be confirmed. I was contacted by Emlyn Williams of the council to arrange a possible meeting at the pier to go over the implications of filming there so hopefully this will come to light soon.

Same story for JP, which I’m still waiting word back on from Geraint, who is still waiting on word back from the school higher ups. I was hoping for JP Hall for the climax of the film, to create the sense of total darkness, but am prepared to keep the entire shoot in the field if this proves infeasible. What I will need JP for is the opening scene of the film, in the therapy scene. I do believe the scene can be most strongly executed in one shot in this room, I just need to secure it. I have an alternative that could be set outside, but it would be far more ideal to have the scene indoors. All being well I’ll receive word back soon.

What has been very successful is my time spent with Sophie, my composer. We’ve already had two meetings going over the script and ideas for music and sound, which have been very productive and will tide us over into the post-production process very well. We’ve been outside along the pier and beach for sound tests with her own equipment, and the results have been extremely high quality and successful. I’m excited to see what magic is made on the shoot sound-wise, and what kind of editing trickery can be done during post.

I still have not received my budget. I don’t want to make things run too close in terms of when what I’m purchasing will arrived. For this reason, as well as the room and pier confirmations being unclear, I’m considering delaying the shoot by a week, to the 15th, 16th, and 17th of October. I’ve checked with my crew and they are available for this shoot as well, but it would be far more convenient to stick to the planned dates rather than mess things around for anyone else. We’ll have to see how things play out in the coming weeks, but things are starting to get tense and I’m not sure if I’m at a point where I can progress in a current stage to meet those self-imposed deadlines. It’s difficult to figure out at this stage, all I can hope is I have information one way or the other by next week.

Estimated shoot dates – 8-10th October 2020 (possibly 15-17th October 2020)
